Painter in Carouge

In Carouge, the Sardinian-era buildings of the Vieux-Carouge sit next to the post-war blocks of Les Acacias and the recent developments around Les Tuileries. Renovhome SA paints across all of them, from managed rental flats to fully renovated apartments.

Representative architecture of the Carouge district in Geneva — Renovhome SA works there regularly.
Carouge — architecture representative of the district

Carouge has a character of its own: the Sardinian grid, the low buildings, the inner courtyards, that mix of housing and small trades that sets the commune apart. The building stock, though, is far less uniform than it looks. You go from eighteenth-century buildings, some of them listed, to 1960s and 70s condominiums, with municipal housing and renovated upmarket flats in between. None of these surfaces calls for the same preparation, or the same products.

Carouge doesn’t have a single face

The Sardinian buildings of the Vieux-Carouge, around the Place du Marché, the Rue Saint-Joseph and the Rue Vautier, have modest ceiling heights and surfaces that are mostly traditional plaster, sometimes with exposed beams. Towards Les Acacias, La Fontenette or Battelle, the era changes: 1960s-80s concrete, more recent plasterboard partitions. And near Les Tuileries and La Praille, the developments of the last few years follow another logic again, with smooth surfaces and specific bonding primers.

What we do in Carouge

  • Between-tenancy repaints in the area’s managed buildings.
  • Painting renovated apartments alongside an interior architect and the other trades.
  • Restoring old ceilings in the Sardinian buildings: hairline cracks, marks left by past leaks, a discreet return to clean.
  • Enamel finishes on the open kitchens of refurbished flats.
  • Wallpaper hanging on decorating projects.

Who we work for

  • Property managers running the buildings on the Place de l’Octroi, the Rue Vautier, the Rue Saint-Joseph and around Les Acacias.
  • Owners of renovated flats in the Vieux-Carouge.
  • Tenants preparing their check-out inventory in the newer buildings.
  • Architects running a full renovation.

The rhythm of Carouge projects

Carouge is in high rental demand, and re-lets follow one another quickly, mostly at the start of the school year and in early summer. We organise around your window: visit, quote, then straight on to the work.

Parking and logistics

The Sardinian grid makes site parking awkward in the Vieux-Carouge. We sort it out with the caretakers and, when a delivery calls for it, apply for the municipal permits needed.

Local FAQ

Good to know in Carouge

How do you prepare the plaster walls in the Sardinian buildings of the Vieux-Carouge?
Old plaster is handled case by case. We start by tapping for hollow, crumbling areas, then deal with the hairline cracks and consolidate the base before any paint goes on. In listed buildings we keep to discreet, reversible finishes, with products that let the wall breathe. The point isn't to hide the old fabric but to bring it back without altering it.
Can a flat still be lived in while it's repainted, given how compact these rooms are?
It can, and it often is in the Vieux-Carouge, where rooms tend to be on the small side. We work zone by zone, sheet up, protect everything, and hand back a livable space each evening. Low-odour paints, low in VOCs, mean you can stay put while they dry without much disruption.
Do you coordinate stairwell and common-area work in condominiums?
It's a regular part of what we do, both in the 1960s-80s blocks towards Les Acacias and in the Vieux-Carouge. We set the phasing with the property manager and the caretaker: one flight at a time, keeping access to the flats and protecting floors and letterboxes until the work is finished.
Turnaround between tenancies is tight in Carouge. How do you keep to the schedule?
Carouge re-lets quickly, especially in June and September. After the visit and the quote, we plan the work around the gap between the outgoing and incoming tenant, fitting the drying times to the date of the check-out inventory. A single contact follows the job on our side, which keeps things simple with the property manager.
